ECOChain proudly to announce a Hard Fork, Themis, will take place at block height 870,000. The expected date is September 15, 2020. We kindly inform all users to upgrade their core wallets from version 1.3 to version 1.4. This is a hard fork, so upgrading is obligatory. Be aware that the upgrade must be done prior to the hard fork. Not upgrading and trying to stake will result in rejection from the other nodes, so staking will not be possible until you upgrade to Themis (v1.4.0). Delaying an upgrade will possibly need a redownload of the chain data.
Mobile users don’t need to take any action. The same is true for users and investors who have their ECOC deposit to the exchanges (MXC, Boboo, and Bittrex), no extra action is needed. Later on, if they want to withdraw and staking, they must first upgrade their core wallet and sync with the network.
To be sure that everything is fine after hard fork, the user can check on ECOChain’s explorer. As well as, users must have the same block height as the explorer (https://explorer.ecoc.io). The block hash of the last block must be the same as the hash that sees in the core wallet. In any other case, the user must stop the wallet, clear the chain data, and redownload until syncing.
So, for stakers, it is strongly recommended to take a wallet backup and upgrade their wallet BEFORE the hard fork. For these users, no desyncing is expected, so they don’t have to be worried. For stakers who have learned about a hard fork, after Sep 15, 2020, the solution is still simple. Don’t launch the wallet, just back up and upgrade first. Problems will arise only for core wallets that don’t upgrade and try to stake with the old client after the block 870,000.
On any occasion, users must always have a backup of their wallets. If a user does something wrong, the coins will not be lost. They are still on the blockchain, so they are safe. Wallet restoration will make the coins visible at the core wallet again. So, users have nothing to worry about.
Kindly be reminded this hard fork changes the consensus only for the POS reward (reward per block). Everything else remains the same.
